Wildly Crafted: Cabins Designed for Nature

Wildly Crafted creates cabins and treehouses designed to reconnect people with the natural world. Rooted in the principles of biophilic design, their builds aim to bring people closer to the landscapes around them - spaces where architecture and nature feel intertwined rather than separate.

Sustainability sits at the centre of their approach. Every build prioritises minimising environmental impact, from the materials chosen to the way structures sit within the landscape. The team continually researches new materials and techniques that reduce harm to the planet while creating spaces that feel warm, natural and restorative to spend time in.

Much of this thinking is reflected in the materials used across their cabins and treehouses. Ground screw foundations replace traditional concrete bases, allowing structures to be installed with minimal disturbance to the land and easily removed or reused in the future. Timber is sourced locally wherever possible, often from nearby forests or reclaimed supplies, ensuring both sustainability and a natural aesthetic that blends with the surrounding environment.

Insulation is another important part of the process. Wildly Crafted frequently uses hemp insulation - a breathable, non-toxic material that manages moisture naturally while supporting biodiversity during cultivation. Wood fibre insulation, made from recycled paper production waste, is also used in some builds, alongside green roofs that provide additional habitat for insects and wildlife.

Design decisions are always guided by the landscape itself. Sunrises, sunsets and views often shape the orientation of a cabin, while trees, ponds or natural features help determine the exact position of the building. The goal is to create retreats that sit quietly within their surroundings, enhancing rather than dominating the landscape.

Working off-grid inevitably presents challenges. Weather and access can make construction complex, particularly on remote rural sites. In some cases, buildings are constructed in Wildly Crafted’s workshop and then transported to site and craned into position. With careful planning, however, the team is able to build in some remarkably secluded locations.

The result is a collection of cabins and treehouses designed to feel both comfortable and low impact - spaces built with natural materials, minimal toxins and a clear respect for the land they occupy.
